Introducing Sortbat
Introducing ReUse consortium member - Sortbat.
Sortbat is a state-of-the-art facility where batteries are collected, sorted, secured, dismantled and reused. Small or large, batteries are transformed into neatly sorted categories for recycling or reuse. As many as 500,000 used batteries roll down the conveyor belt every day.
A lot has changed in the world of batteries, smartphones, e-vehicles, and the exponential growth of lithium-ion.... which is why Sortbat continues to innovate. Batteries of different chemical compositions are dismantled from home energy storage systems and electric cars. By sorting batteries more efficiently, the batteries can be recycled in the best possible way.
Together with professional partners throughout Europe, Sortbat works for a better environment.
Role in the project
In the ReUse project, Sortbat:
Prepares a market study on current and future LFP waste streams in the EU. Data from project partners and current and projected production capacity of LFP batteries in Europe will be analyzed.
Provides a detailed technical description of LFP battery production waste and EoL LFP batteries.
Provides detailed safety aspects related to the storage, handling, and processing of production waste and EoL batteries.
Provides an overview of current legislation/regulation related to the transport of these waste streams within Europe. This will be used as a basis for material shipping and warrants a cost-efficient and safe sample shipment within the project.
