Introducing Arkema

Introducing ReUse consortium member - Arkema.

Arkema, a global leader in specialty materials, is renowned for designing innovative and sustainable solutions to address the growing demands of the energy transition, technological evolution, and resource conservation. With a presence in 55 countries, Arkema leverages its extensive expertise across three key segments, Adhesive Solutions, Advanced Materials, and Coating Solutions.

The company’s mission is to create materials that enable mobility, digitalization, urbanization, and environmental responsibility. As a pioneer in polymer science, Arkema holds a leading position in the market for fluoropolymers, including PVDF, a critical component in lithium-ion batteries (LiBs), particularly those based on LFP (lithium iron phosphate) chemistries.

Role in the project

In the ReUse project, Arkema focuses on the recovery and valorization of binder and electrolyte materials from end-of-life LiBs. As the largest global producer of PVDF for battery applications, Arkema brings its unparalleled knowledge to the development of circular binder solutions by testing and characterizing recovered PVDF materials. Arkema also contributes to the recovery and purification of electrolyte salts, ensuring they meet the strict requirements for reuse in battery manufacturing or advanced chemical applications. Working closely with partners Fraunhofer ISC, DTI, and EMPA, Arkema is helping to close the loop in battery materials, supporting Europe’s ambition for a more sustainable and circular battery value chain.
